The Standard of Standards

"...I respect you, so I don't want to mislead you..."
This is part of an actual quote from someone I went out a few times, a couple of years ago. I like to be honest, and real with my readers because I appreciate your loyalty. The truth can be ugly, and can hurt regardless of how strong and confident we are.

I have a lot of great stories about dating, but this theme seems to be recurring. The quote above was from someone who I got along well with, but when we would go out, he did seem uncomfortable. He has his reasons, but I'm sure other women have gone through similar experiences. You make the profile, go through the motions, and decide to meet because he (or she) seems like a great person. Hell, they may even tell you how great you are! Then the reality sets in. Real life, other strangers looking at the two of you while they wait for their bland appetizers, and warm beer. They may or may not be married to the person they are dining with, but have strong opinions of what you are doing.

The date seems to go well, but you can already tell it's going to crash, and possibly burn. It is okay if things don't always work out though. Some people have issues they hide very well until it's usually too late to do anything about. Plus, not everyone is going to be your perfect match. They may be great people, super heros part time, and work on curing cancer, but they just aren't right for you.

Are we really doing more to figure out who fits with us well, or are we working hard to find someone who doesn't exist? When will we stop worrying what those other strangers think? Hopefully soon, because there are a lot of great people out there inside various body types and shapes. It is up to you to give it a try.

What is the best/worst rejection you have received?
